If you’ve been trying to use Cydia for the last day, you might have
noticed that it is slow, sluggish, or even unresponsive. Before you
start thinking that your iPhone may be the cause of the problem, relax
and don’t freak out, because it’s not.
Since the release of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak yesterday, potentially hundreds of thousands of people have been jailbreaking, launching, and refreshing Cydia sources in the same short period of time, resulting in server overloads for many repos…
Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do. The only solution is to
wait for things to calm down. I suspect that in a day or two, most
jailbreakers will have already installed the untether, and things will
start going back to normal.
So be patient! In the meantime, you may want to try using Cydia late at night when there is less online activity.

Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Available Now
Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 is out there and available for Windows and Mac users. The latest Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, original iPad, iPod touch 3G, and iPod touch 4G.
Dev team’s words:
“A few days ago, @pod2g gave the untether to both the iPhone devteam and the chronic devteam. We’ve put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).
Important Note:

Important Note:
- The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
- If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
- If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
- Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.”

Focused on A5

I read the comments on the blog, and I know that a lot of people are waiting for the A5 jailbreak.
Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don't care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don't waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.
I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.
So, here is what I did:
- I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.
- I'll put all my energy from now on on the A5
Hope I don't disappoint.
See you.

Saurik Helps Pod2g Makes More Progress on iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak
It looks like the caching issues that jailbreak guru pod2g was facing are now a thing of the past.
Just a while ago, the iPhone hacker updated his blog acknowledging that he had solved the the A5 chip cache issue, which means we are even closer to the reality of an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak.
pod2g also touched on a few other points of interest regarding the much anticipated release…
From pod2g:
I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he’s found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He’s definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!
So not only was the caching issue solved, but another one of the lingering issues hindering a stable untether was solved as well.
Folks, we’re getting the impression that an iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak is making its strides into the home stretch.
We’ll have more news as it breaks. In the meantime, why not share with us the first thing you’ll install on your jailbroken iPhone 4S?

iOS 5.1 Beta 2 Teases Bloggers With References To iPhone 10, iPad 8 & Apple TV 9 [Humor]
9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman has been peeling through the .plist files of the latest iOS 5.1 beta, and it appears that Apple is screwing with bloggers on purpose: weary of people dissecting the iOS files for mention of future iPhones and iPads, iOS 5.1 Beta 2 references the Apple TV 9, iPad 8, and iPhone 10, among others.
We’ve dedicated more than a few posts t0 declaring that a new iPad or iPhone is coming thanks to .plist references, but even so, I think this is pretty funny. Way to screw with a poor tech blogger’s head, Apple! The message is clear from here on out: you can’t trust iOS’s .plist files for a scoop. Well done!

New iOS 5.0.1 Build Was Released to Fix 'No SIM Card' Errors?
The new iOS 5.0.1 build released yesterday may have been seeded to fix 'No SIM Card' errors on the iPhone 4S, according to MacRumors.
Based on a new Apple support document, it now appears that the updated build may have been designed to address an issue some users have been experiencing with SIM card-related errors. With the update affecting a relatively small portion of users, Apple may have elected not to push it out to all users in the form of an iOS 5.0.2 software update, and instead rely on those users who are having problems following Apple's advice and obtaining the new build through the restore process outlined as a solution for the issue.
In the support document Apple says that in certain situations, iPhone 4S may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:
● "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
● Status bar displays "No Service" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage.
To resolve the issue, users are advised to restore their devices through iTunes which would install the new build 9A406 of iOS 5.0.1.
There have also been early reports that the new build improves battery life for some users.
You can find download links for all the various iOS versions here.

iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Done For All A4 Devices
The entire jailbreak community has its eyes on pod2g right now. The Chronic Dev Team-affiliated iOS hacker has shown a lot of progress over the last few weeks in his efforts to create an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak.
Pod2g has demonstrated a working untethered jailbreak on a third-generation iPod touch running the latest iOS software, and recently confirmed it to work on the iPhone 4. Now he’s added several more devices to the list.
In a string of updates on his blog today, pod2g noted that he has completed the code for his jailbreak for the original iPad, the iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS, and Apple TV. He is looking to complete testing on these devices within the next few days.
“iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device. Just to let you know my progress in real time. iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 untethered code is done. Testing tomorrow also! iPod 4G 5.0.1 untethered too ! ). Apple TV 2 4.43 untethered done also. Will be able to test in some days.”
Once he’s done testing his exploit on the above-mentioned products, pod2g’s jailbreak will be nearly complete for all relevant A4 devices. While this is exciting news for some, there still is no word on whether the jailbreak will be compatible with A5 devices, like the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
Stay tuned
iTunes 10.5.2 Live On Apple's Web Site
iTunes 10.5.2 can be downloaded from Apple's Web Site. iTunes is the application that we all abhor using to manage our iDevices. Apple has recently introduced the PC-Free feature to iOS devices with the release of iOS 5 which means that we don't technically need iTunes too much anymore. That doesn't make it a useless application, though. iTunes is still an awesome media application for the Mac and the PC that allows you to make media purchases and play from from your computer to stream them to your Apple TV or other iDevices. Apple includes the Remote application for iOS users so that you can control your computer iTunes from afar using the Wi-Fi network that the computer is linked to. So while iTunes comes with some misfortunes, it also has its kickbacks. Today, Apple has thrown iTunes version 10.5.2 onto their Web Site which comes with some fixes to the last version. iTunes 10.5.2 comes with countless improvements for Apple's new iTunes Match service, which allows you to have Apple's audio track of equivalence to the one on the CD that you purchased with the use of iCloud for a monthly fee, and fixes an audio distortion problem when playing or importing certain CD's. While most of use do not use CD's anymore, they're not completely extinct yet and those of you CD users who are having problems with iTunes might be able to take a deep breath of relief now because of this update. After updating, it has been deemed that iTunes 10.5.2 is jailbreak safe. So go ahead and download! Sources: 9to5Mac
