European Union Ends Antitrust Investigations Into Apple's iPhone Repair and iOS Development Policies
Over the weekend, the European Commission announced that it has dropped pair of antitrust investigations it had been conducting related to Apple's policies on international iPhone repairs and third-party development tools for iOS applications.
The first issue related to Apple's policies that made it difficult for consumers who purchased an iPhone in one European Union member country to have their device serviced under warranty in another member country.
One focused on the "country of purchase" rule, whereby repairs service is only available in the country where the iPhone was bought, which made the exercise of warranty rights difficult for consumers who had purchased an iPhone in another EU/EEA country than their home country. The Commission had concerns that this rule could amount to territorial restrictions aimed at dissuading European consumers from buying iPhones outside their country of residence and so leading to a partitioning of the market.
In response to the investigation, Apple has now rescinded its "country of purchase" rule and will allow independent service providers to offer warranty repairs to cross-border customers.
As for the second issue, it was reported last month that the European Commission had joined onto an investigation being conducted by U.S. regulators into Apple's exclusion of third-party development tools for the creation iOS applications for submission to the company's App Store. The Commission's concerns were evidently addressed by Apple's announcement earlier this month that it would begin allowing such tools to be used and would increase transparency in the application review process.

[iNews] SHAtter Exploit will Jailbreak All Existing iOS Devices Forever !
We previously broke the news to our respected readers of a low-level bootrom exploit which would enable jailbreaking on iOS 4.1 and beyond with all versions of the iPod touch, iPhone and of course, iPad! This exploit was special in a way because Apple will not be able to patch the exploit with a software update, instead it will require Apple to release entirely revised hardware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and we all know that we are at least 6 months away from any hardware revisions.
Word around the Twittersphere is that the exploit named SHAtter is in the bootrom section, together with Pwnage 2.0 and 24kpwn which will make all existing devices, including the new iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G pwned for life! It is obviously not publicly available yet, both the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team hackers are hard at work right now trying to get everything ready for full release. Unfortunately though, this jailbreak is reportedly said to be tethered i.e. you will be required to connect your iOS device to your computer on every reboot unlike how untethered userland jailbreak like JailbreakMe worked. iPhone hacker posixninja has confirmed that Geohot also had this exploit dubbed at that time as “pwned4life” before leaving the jailbreak scene.
We will of course let you know whenever these new jailbreak and unlock tools for iOS 4.1 are available for download. Stay tuned!

It’s a trap!
This time of year there are lots of new iPhone owners, and not everybody knows that accepting new iOS updates is the surest way to lose your jailbreak and/or unlock. While those of you who have Cydia or TinyUmbrella backups of your FW hashes will always be able to get back to 4.0.1 if you make this mistake, this doesn’t hold for unlockers. There’s currently no known way to revert your baseband — if you update your baseband you’ll lose the ultrasn0w unlock, possible forever.
Please stay away from this 4.1 release until a safe jailbreak procedure is developed and released.
P.S. There are a very few iPhone3G owners who can revert their basebands due to a flaw in very early bootloaders…you will already know if you fit in this category!)
Report iOS 4.1 Already Jailbroken by Dev-Team member Comex
It is being reported by several Tech Blogs that Dev-Team (Comex) has successfully Jailbroken iOS 4.1 ahead of its rumored release on September 8th. The report was initially posted by a Tech Blog named ‘ Tracy & Matt ‘ mentioning:
” It is not even out yet, but the good people over at the iPhone Dev Team have managed to Jailbreak iOS 4.1. ”
This Jailbreak is achieved after Comex found two loopholes, who earlier released Jailbreakme.com a Web based user-land utethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1. However we have yet to see the official confirmation either on Dev-Team Blog or the Twitter Accounts run by these Developers where they usually first post such information. We will of course keep you updated as more details become available. If you want to poke around the firmware you can download it http://ping.fm/FQgyF

Apple Unveils New iPod Shuffle With Buttons and VoiceOver
Apple today announced the new redesigned iPod shuffle which features both clickable “ring” buttons and VoiceOver technology, enabling users to easily navigate their music and playlists without ever looking at their iPod shuffle. The new wearable iPod shuffle has an all-aluminum enclosure with a built-in clip and comes in five brilliant colors—silver, blue, green, orange and pink. With nearly 50 percent more battery life, the new iPod shuffle features over 15 hours of music playback on a single battery charge and offers 2GB of storage for just $49.
“We’re making the iPod shuffle even better by combining clickable buttons and VoiceOver technology, so users can find and enjoy their music without ever looking at their iPod shuffle,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With its all-aluminum enclosure and built-in clip the new iPod shuffle is a great workout companion, and at just $49 it's a great entry-level iPod that almost everyone can afford.”
iPod shuffle is based on Apple’s incredibly popular shuffle feature, which randomly selects songs from a user’s music library. The clickable buttons make the new iPod shuffle even easier to use. Press the center button to play and pause, press the outer buttons to skip forward and back or adjust the volume up and down.
The new VoiceOver button on top of iPod shuffle allows users to hear the name of the currently playing song and to switch between songs, playlists or Genius Mixes. VoiceOver speaks 25 different languages and even alerts users when their battery needs charging.
The new iPod shuffle now supports Genius Mixes, the popular iTunes feature that automatically creates mixes from songs in a user’s music library that go great together. Genius Mixes provide the perfect way to rediscover music users already have, but may not have listened to recently.
iPod is the world’s most popular family of digital music players with over a quarter billion sold. Apple’s new holiday lineup includes a brand new iPod shuffle for just $49; the remarkable new iPod nano with Multi-Touch starting at $149; the incredible new iPod touch with Retina display, Apple’s A4 chip, FaceTime, HD video recording and Game Center starting at just $229; and iPod classic in a 160GB model for $249.
Pricing & Availability
The fourth generation iPod shuffle will be available next week for a suggested price of $49 (US) for a 2GB model in silver, blue, green, orange and pink through the Apple Store (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.
| Apple Reinvents iPod Nano With Multi-Touch Interface
Apple today unveiled a completely redesigned iPod nano featuring Apple’s Multi-Touch interface that lets users navigate their music collection by simply tapping or swiping a finger on the display. Nearly half the size and weight of the previous generation, the new iPod nano features a polished aluminum and glass enclosure with a built-in clip, making it instantly wearable. The new iPod nano features Genius Mixes, the ability to create and edit playlists, a built-in FM radio with live pause and up to 24 hours of music playback on a single battery charge.
“This is the biggest reinvention of the iPod nano since its debut in 2005, and we think users are going to love it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Replacing the click wheel with our Multi-Touch interface has enabled us to shrink the iPod nano into an amazingly small design that is instantly wearable with its built-in clip.”
The new iPod nano with Apple’s Multi-Touch interface allows users to access their songs, artists, albums and playlists with a tap or swipe of their finger on the display. Holding down a finger returns the user to the Home screen, and users can easily use two fingers to rotate the screen if it is clipped onto their clothing upside down. Users can also customize their Home screen by simply dragging icons from other screens onto the Home screen.
iPod nano also features Shake to Shuffle, giving music lovers the ability to shake their iPod nano to shuffle to a new song in their music library. With its built-in FM radio, iPod nano lets you listen to your favorite radio stations, and live pause lets you pause and resume playing your favorite FM radio shows without missing a beat.
With an amazing new design that is nearly half the size and weight of its predecessor, the new ultra-portable iPod nano is a natural workout companion. Clip iPod nano onto your workout clothing, touch your music and start your workout. iPod nano features a built-in pedometer that makes it easy to track your steps and also supports Nike + iPod®, giving users the ability to track runs and workouts.

Apple Announces New iPod Touch With Facetime, Retina Display
Apple today announced the new iPod touch which features a Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center—all combined in the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever. The new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.

With just one tap of the new FaceTime app, iPod touch users can call other new iPod touch or iPhone 4 users to easily see what their friends are up to, share important moments like the first day of school and even show others what they are seeing by easily switching to the rear-facing camera.
The rear-facing camera on iPod touch is perfect for HD video recording. Users can easily capture HD video wherever they are and share it via email, MobileMe and YouTube. With the iMovie app, users can combine movie clips, add dynamic transitions and themes and include photos and music right on their iPod touch. Users can buy and download the app for just $4.99 through the App Store℠ right on their iPod touch.
Apple’s A4 chip provides iPod touch users with exceptional processor and graphics performance along with long battery life. This remarkably fast and power-efficient chip, along with the Retina display and 3-axis gyro, makes games on iPod touch the best they’ve ever been on any mobile device.
iPod touch is the world’s most popular portable game player. Now with Game Center, iPod touch users can challenge and play friends or be matched automatically with new opponents. Game Center lets iPod touch users showcase their scores and achievements and discover new games their friends are playing. Make Ringtones Directly On iPhone Using Your Music Library
UnlimTones has been available in Magic Mobile repo and cydia for quite a while, it allows you to download iphone ringtones directly from audiko.net, a popular site for uploading your own music and making your own ringtones.
A couple of days ago this great app got a major upgrade, it now lets you create ringtones directly on your iphone using your ipod music library. The app has had this feature for quite sometime now but the latest update removes the ffmpeg dependency and runs a lot smoother. To get startedYou have to be jailbroken, sorry to those who aren’t. Open up cydia, add http://cydia.myrepospace.com/MagicMobile/ to your Cydia Sources search and install UnlimTones. Now go on and enjoy making ringtones from your music library.
Remember to use the plus or minus buttons to put the timer exactly where you want and get that perfect ringtone. Take note that making a ringtone using this app puts it in the default apple ringtones list so you have to look for your ringtone there and not under the custom ringtones list synced with itunes.
To those with older iphone models be patient as making a ringtone may take a while to finish. Overall what we’ve all been waiting for has never been any easier. The ads popping up everywhere within the app are a little annoying but its ok as we can finally make ringtones whenever, wherever and however we want.

Mexican Carrier Executive Claims iPhone 4 Hardware Revision Coming by End of September
CanalMX reports [Google translation] on comments from an executive at Mexican carrier Telcel claiming that Apple is set to release a revised version of the iPhone 4 by the end of September to address the highly-publicized antenna issue. Telcel began offering the iPhone 4 in Mexico last Friday as part of a quiet expansion that saw the device also come to the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.
According to Marco Quatorze, Telcel's Director of Value Added Services, the iPhone 4 sold in Mexico will initially be the same hardware as that sold in the U.S. and elsewhere, with Apple offering a free case to address potential issues with antenna performance. But he also noted that as of September 30th, when the free case program expires, revised hardware without the reception issues will become available.
The veracity of Quatorze's claim is unknown, as it is unclear whether a carrier executive at his level would even be privy to such information, and it is possible that he may simply be mistaken in his understanding of Apple's September 30th expiration date for the free case program. At Apple's iPhone 4 press conference last month, Steve Jobs noted that the free case program was launched with an initial expiration date of September 30th to provide the company with time to continue its investigation of the antenna issue and perhaps come up with a better solution for future customers.
